By the way, for the next couple of months I'll be randomly writing a paragraph or so on the subject of Philosophy, Art, Craft and Science. Back off, it's education.
Anyway, this is my first post on the subject matter and all I can really think to write is that I don't quite understand the whole human need to categorize everything. It's like this pull we all have to label everything, have everything go into its own little box so that we can, what? Better understand it? Ourselves? Whatever. Isn't the whole label and categorize the opposite of most artist's mentality? I suppose thats a categorization or a label, saying 'most artists'.
The point is, is I just don't quite get it. Yet. It's like the human case of OCD.

OCD is a human case :) its a three word name we gave to an acton that some humans have, so you're right ; )
Categorization. Is it a disease? Well, it could be. The human urge to categorize may be founded on a need for safety. If I know what something is and what its properties are, then I know what to expect from it; I can plan around it; I can be safe from it. Biologically, this may be the origin of categorization.
Categorization serves our purposes, too, by offering some degree of efficiency: I place things in folders and on my shelves based upon categorization schemes. If I did not, I would spend far more time looking for things.
One might argue that the Bible recognizes categorization as a basic human task, in that naming is a kind of categorization, and this is said to have been the first activity in which Adam engaged.
